Metabolic syndrome is an opportunity for patients to realize how sedentary lifestyle, less nutritious than desired eating habits and weight gain over time conspire to cause abnormal blood lipids, elevated blood pressure, elevated blood sugars, hypercoagulability and increased inflammation. But most important, it's recognition should begin the process of learning how lifestyle change and improvement in weight and waist can reduce the toll of metabolic risk factors as well as the associated risks of diabetes and coronary heart disease. |
